Cost Explanation

Any reduction in square footage will require a complete redesign of the building as the design is fully integrated and aspects cannot be changed without the entire design being reexamined.  Programmatic spaces identified in the grant application cannot be reduced past the size as identified.  The spaces are specifically designed to work together.  Any shaving of the building will eliminate square feet from previously designed and approved spaces.  This is a very complicated design which all fits together and which must be approved by the MBLC, the SSBC and the Library Trustees.  Shaving square feet off a room or set of rooms will require reconfiguration of those spaces as well as the rest of the building, since those spaces impact or connect with other spaces.
